2011 Physics Nobel Prize
October 10th 2011 05:39
The 2011 Physics Nobel Prize goes to Dr. Saul Perlmutter (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, UC Berkeley), Professor Brian Schmidt (High Z Supernova search team, Australian National University, Weston Creek, Australia) and Professor Adam Reiss (High Z Supernova search team, Australian National University, Weston Creek, Australia).
This year's Nobel Prize in Physics recognizes our understanding of the cosmos. The measurements of a particular type of supernova, called Type Ia, show that the expansion of the universe itself is accelerating, not slow down as we thought before.
