Is the life on earth from meteorites?

December 21st 2010 04:23
Is the original building block of life (about 4 billion years ago) from chemical reactions on early Earth, or perhaps brought by meteorites?
Amino acids are building block of life on earth. In 2009, a new analysis of samples from NASA's Stardust mission showed that an amino acid has been found on a comet for the first time.

Steve Arnold and Geoffrey Notkin are the Meteorite Men. They both visit areas around the world where meteorites have impacted with the Earth's surface. Their shows are on Science Channel

Interesting thought. Mathematically, it is nigh on impossible for random molecules to string together to form amino acids. Therefore, evolution without external forces (whether from God or from something else) is not possible.
Interesting concept though. If we evolved from that protein molecule that came from another planet, maybe we are aliens.

Although North America is isolated from other continents, we find the similar species due to the seed brought by wind. If the life in universe is brought by amino acids in Meteorite, we can see the same life form in other planets as us.

Not necessarily. Natural selection would be dictated based on that particular environment. Amino acids can resist the break down of an extreme environment, but the evolutionary process and natural selection is directly related to the environment and the evolutionary traits of other species within the same ecosystem.
Nature HERE has proven that. Evolution does not necessarily end with intelligence and self awareness. The dinosaurs (with brains the size of a walnut) were built for physical exertion... strength, speed, and cunning. Humans only physical trait that outstrips other animals is the ability to recognize movement and walk on the back legs. I see what you are saying, but evolution would have MOST LIKELY made creatures VERY different from those here.

Given enough long time, will evolution lead to intelligence and self awareness? I think it is highly possible. For the evolution history, we can see life form is becoming complex. Dinosaurs are definitely smarter than plants, fish and germs, although less intelligence than human.

This leads to another interesting dispute:
if the amino acid in meteorites lands on another planet, which has the same condition as our earth and given the same time, will be there another human being there?
