Quantum atom replaces silicon - next generation of computer, quantum computer
December 17th 2010 20:17
A classical computer has a memory made up of bits, while a quantum computer uses qubits. Bit is 0 or 1. Qubit is 0, 1 or any quantum superposition of these. Quantum computers may solve many difficult problems impossible by classical computers.
There are a lot of research laboratories for quantum computers around the world. D-Wave at British Columbia, Canada is the world's only "commercial" quantum computing company. Quantum computer is just at the beginning and has a long road to go. But the idea behind a quantum computer is quite fundamental and interesting.
