The fate of the universe
October 16th 2011 07:23
The heat death is a possible final state of the universe. The universe reaches its maximum entropy. There is no thermodynamic free energy to sustain motion or life.
There are possible five ages of the universe: Primordial Era (0-10^6 years), Stelliferous Era (10^6-10^14 years), Degenerate Era (10^15-10^37 years), the Black Hole Era (10^38-10^131 years) and the Dark Era (10^145 years). We are in the Stelliferous Era. As the dark era is too far in the future, our powers of prediction begin to lose focus. Recent experiment data show that the expansion of the universe itself is accelerating, not slow down as we thought before. The final universe is so empty and frozen.
It is quite sad to see the truth of the fate of our Universe. No matter how long of the human civilization and how we mange to live in the Universe, we can not escape to be wiped out.
Video: Ultimate fate of our Universe
Its a final part of a documentary entitled Time, presented by Michio Kaku and showed by BBC. That particular part shows a theory about the ultimate fate of the Universe.
